Music Video Case Study: Lamb of God – Redneck
August 21st, 2006 by MrsBarnesWarning: This post is filled with?my personal opinions, and lots of them. If you disagree, post some comments and tell me how?and why I’m wrong!?
——————————————————————————————-
I’m a big fan of Lamb of God! I first heard their music while riding around in a friend’s car – most likely to go film a band since that’s one of the main times I would be in such a situation…. well, shortly afterwards I was trying to find anything I could by them!
Probably like a lot of fans, I thought it was very cool when they got a new contract with a larger label, and was excited to hear the new CD! The first preview song “Redneck”, however, was disappointing. To me, and apparently a lot of other?people, it?sounds like a bad rip off of Pantera. But the second preview song (which you can find here: http://www.sacrament2006.com …move the Ouija cursor to the top right corner) was much better. The CD looks like it will be pretty damn good, as the previous releases were.
I always thought it was silly when fans would go off about a band changing as soon as they got a deal on a major. But I can hear it. The songs are a bit more polished, it’s more “produced”. I expect that though – the major can pump a lot more time and money into this – it’s not a bad thing.
On the other hand, apparently they?are very good at screwing up a video!
The other day, I finally saw the video for “Redneck”. It felt like I was in 1985 as I watched the band “party” with half naked girls on the bus and crash a school kids party. Cheeeese-City. It might have been funny if it were a blink 182 video… since even though they are a horrible horrible band, you know they aren’t serious when they make videos like that. If I was seeing Lamb of God for the first time, I would have written them off as a cheesy Pantera wanna be group. Harsh? Sure; aren’t you when you first see a band’s video? You don’t have to be nice and like them out of some kind of charity. You decide “yes or no” right then. Luckily, I know the rest of the band’s work and can just ignore this flop.
My Bet?
1. A bigger budget for the video made whoever involved spend money on dumb things just for the hell of it, and
2. An initial good concept messed with too much by people who didn’t really know the band.
Yes?- it might, hell it PROBABLY will?do the band well and gain them a more mainstream audience. My thoughts to the band (or really label): Just don’t forget: if the audience is interested because of this video, that just means you have to make more videos and songs like this to keep their attention.

I am a fan of Lamb of God.
I’ve been a fan for a while.
I don’t think the people who like a band just for the videos.
They just shouldn’t bother if thats the case.
I find it pointless.
People who need visuals for music, need help, not more videos.
People take things like music for granted.
And they don’t realize how great the band was until it’s gone.
I am a fan of Lamb of God
thier so RAD
Dude iv been rockin LOG for years and the Redneck video came off as a joke. and thats the way it shouldve been taken…Lamb Of God crashin a kids bday party? if you take that seriously and dont laugh knowing what kind of band LOG is then you need to be shot in the head
LOG sounds nothing like pantera, totally different riffing styles. TOTALLY
