ITunes vs an Honest to God CD
Surely a lot of people have had to deal with this minor, but annoying, dilemma. Well, I’m behind the times, and this is MY first time dealing with it. In just the past few weeks, Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Cattle Decapitation and more have released albums and my interest in new music has returned with a vengeance!
I can think of quite a few positive things about both….
I Tunes and other music download services:
I think the most obvious ITunes advantage is that you get the music RIGHT NOW without the guilt of having just stolen money out of the artists hands by downloading it illegally. There is no waiting in line, no annoying cash register operator, no hoping they have your strange CD choice in stock, and no shipping if you go the internet order way.
Like it a lot? Put it on your MP3 player, burn a CD?- whatever! Versatility!
All that and most every service its $9.99 for a full length CD. Maybe you grew up with $20 CDs like?I did?and this is HUGE to you too? Even online right now, after shipping you are easily looking at $15 for a new album.
Buying a CD online or at the store:
You get to touch it. You get the artwork. You get the lyric sheets. You get to show off your superior musical taste by putting your new CD on your shelf for everyone to see (and touch?as well! ew!). It’s more “complete”.
Then this recent development I’m sure you have noticed -?Enhanced CDs. Just about every new release has a ton of cool video on the CD or on an accompying DVD that doesn’t cost you any extra. Sure; you could probably wait for some loser to rip it on YouTube, but then you are stuck watching it on a shitty little screen and we all know YouTube sucks anyway.
There is cerainly some versatility to a CD as well. For one - most cars dont have MP3 players or docks for them yet, so you get to listen to it when you drive. Want it on your MP3 player? There is a lot of software to rip the music onto your harddrive for personal use.
I say it’s a draw between the two at this point. With CD prices sooo close to the price of downloadable albums and labels tossing in the extras to get your attention, they might even have the lead. This doesn’t mean I know what my final decision is yet!

I admit itunes purchases are convienient, but thats it. For 1 it’s an mp3 and I personally perfer CD audio wav files that haven’t gone through any sort of compression. I also hate the although I just bought the song for .99 I am limited in it’s use, wich is crap.

CD quality audio is way better than the quality you get with iTunes. iTunes only gives you mp3s in 128 kbps (kilobytes per second) quality, while CD quality is at least 320 kbps. The difference is overwhelming. Most of the songs on my iPod are 128 kbps, and I’ve started to re-rip my CDs to higher quality files, and I can really tell the difference. Compression sucks. I would take a CD over a mp3 file any day. The only songs I buy off iTunes are exclusive tracks you can’t get anywhere else. That’s the only reason I see to use iTunes.

CDS are an over all support to the band with that purchase it shows you give a shit to support them by going to the favorite music store to purchase it.

i cant stand Itunes. And i fucking hate my ipod.
But CD’s are alright. Convenient, but id still prefer classic Vinyl records. Better sound quality and better package.
