The Monsters Of Mayhem Tour
Last Friday night, UVTV roadtripped to the Croc Rock in Allentown, PA, to take some footage at the Monsters Of Mayhem tour.
First, some comments on the club - what a cool venue! Though it was very hot and humid in there that night; the place was one of the coolest clubs I’ve ever seen - good sightlines, large floor area, big bar, pool tables, over 21 and under 21, nice staff, overall an excellent experience from our point of view as well as the crowd totally enjoying themselves. There was a very large turnout, not much room to move in that place. Lighting and sound were excellent as well.
Now to the bands. We missed Despised Icon as we got caught up in traffic on the way there - some accidents about 5 miles from the place! Next up was First Blood who I honestly didn’t get to hear - I was running about setting up sound recording & finalizing plans w/tour managers & the bands.
So then Exodus hits the stage. HOLY CRAP! Not only did the crowd go totally nuts, but this band had some of the highest energy, talent, and showmanship I’ve ever seen. I hope we can do justice to them with our footage. What a set.
Next up Napalm Death. An odd band to say the least. They rocked an eclectic set nonstop as well, which I’m certain we got excellent footage of.
The Black Dahlia Murder came on next. Unfortunately, we did not have arrangements with the band. However, me and the crew needed a breather outside to catch some fresh air and get ready for the next filming. I ventured inside to see some of their set - Dahlia was tight, energetic and had the crowd moshing and surfing about.
When I went back outside, we had a chance to chat with Exodus bassist Jack Gibson as their tour bus was negotiating the narrow alley next to the club for the band to unload their gear. Jack told us stories in amazement of how their tour bus driver in Europe drove down an elbow narrow street and then managed to back the bus out with cars parked on either side leaving barely 3-4 inches of space and did not stop once nor hit anything. “Tour bus driving is indeed an art in of itself,” Jack relayed to us and expressed hopes that “as long as my hair looks good then the live videos will be just fine - it’s all about the hair,” he said with a grin.
I went back into the club to check on the cameras and get gear ready to go for filming Hatebreed. Hanging out near the sound board was Exodus lead singer Rob Dukes conversing with fans and enjoying The Black Dahlia Murder’s set. I thanked him for allowing UVTV to film Exodus and his immediate concern was “did you get me on film when I jumped into the pit?” During the Exodus set Rob, dove 6-8 feet straight over the barrier into the mosh pit where he moshed and surfed with the fans. Hopefully, we did indeed capture some of that on film.
Now on to the headliners: Hatebreed. The crowd began chanting for them more than 10 minutes before their set, getting primed. Then the band smacked onstage and totally dominated. I was impressed - what a show. Total package - tight - tons of energy and a massive connection with the crowd. This is a pro band in every sense of the word. Wow.
So until we have live footage ready from this event check out the bands’s music videos!!!!
