Over at Gizmodo, they’ve put up a gallery of some pretty goofy looking guitars , including some that look a lot like the guitars I’ve seen ZZ-Top play and a few others that are just strange (like one that looks like a shark biting off someone’s leg).

steve-vai-heart-guitar.jpgThey forgot something though - Steve Vai, who played with David Lee Roth for a while (and has been doing great solo for a long time) is known to play some pointlessly complicated looking guitars. I’m sure it serves a purpose, but everyone knows damn well its also because it looks cool. This Heart guitar to the left appeared in a couple of videos and even went on the road with him!

Besides that, it inspired us to see what kind of unique guitars we could find. Some are just works of art. (Prince’s guitar from the superbowl comes to mind) Here are a few we thought were notable:

Of course, you cant forget the 7+ foot flying V guitar from the recent NY Guitar Show. (link goes to video)

The comment above is Michael Angelo Batio…unfortunately, that guitar were stolen shortly after that video was filmed. Most of the pieces have been re-gathered but Batio never pulled it out on stage again.
