If your response to the title of this was “what?”, followed by a puzzled look then I agree!

The Ringle is the RIAA’s new plan to fix their evergrowing money issues. Do you remember buying CD singles? You get the song/single, a couple of remixes, and maybe a secret song if they were generous. Well now, they will package the CD with a code to download a ringtone of the song you just bought and call it a “Ringle”. That’s all it is, a CD single plus a ringtone code. Oh , and it will cost $6-7.

What I wonder is this: If I am already going to go online to redeem the code for the ringtone, why not just sell me all this online - you know - like a digital single with the remixes and stuff. No one listens to CD singles in their car, they are going to go home and rip the CD to get the MP3s, if they even buy it at all! Duh!

Interestingly, there are plenty of free software packages to turn MP3s into ringtones which makes this idea even more retarded. The problem? None of the software really works for ITunes songs or for the Ipod. They think its way cooler to charge you an extra dollar to turn that song you legally bought into a ringtone. You can read more about that right here: http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/005429.php

So…back to what I was going to ask before… Would you buy a Ringle?

they are releasing cd’s because of royalty issues concerning mp3’s… they are renaming them ringles because this new form of delivery qualifies as a new delivery method, artist have a future mediums clause in thier contarcts which allows record companies to recieve a higher percentage of the royalty for x amount of years until the new medium is established, then the standard right aply, it’s a way to rip off the artist basically and allow the record company to make more cash. most band s have standard 10 point deals which give them 10% percent of the gross purchase price as a profit. at 6.00 the band would recieve about $.60 per single at standard rates but with new medium clauses they would only get 5 points on the sale…. get it?

Uhh, no, since I don’t care to have a song as my ringtone…at least not one that’s potentially copy protected. Jeez, when will the RIAA stop?

The internet single is here and that’s the way it is, but so is the over-accepting consumer. There are plenty more over priced and double billable goods out there and no one complains enough, in my opinion. Anyways, “dingle berrings” or whatever they call’em are not for me. I prefer a basic ring job.

the RIAA are a bunch of blood sucking ass ravers…i hope the pricks go broke like everyone their screwing right now…but its ok because they will be cleaning with my toilet with their toothbrush in the next life…

“ass ravers” is my new favorite term! it just barely beats out
    “bitchfactory”
    and
    “jerkstore”

Yeah I wouldn’t bother with the whole ringles tone… I don’t even buy singles and if they are 6-7 bucks I’d rather buy the whole album. They should just include it in albums as well actually for the price of some albums (virgin 18.99 typical price) they should have ringtones for every track on the album.

Ringles sounds like an anal disease…and im glad you enjoyed the ass ravers terminology hahahaha…now tell me what good is a ringle if you dont have a freakin cell phone and cant afford one because the RIAA sucked the dang life out of you…ill give them a freakin ringle alright a ringle around their rosey….

  8. Rhys  Says:

hahahaha ‘Ringles’ TOTALLY sounds like an anal infliction of one kind or more. To be honest.. I would be happy for the free advertising If someone was using one of my songs as a ring tone on their phone.. I am surprised there isn’t a company yet giving away phones that play commercials instead of MP3’s.. Even if they didn’t play true tone type voice ad’s.. If you tied it in with a major radio and TV ad campaign.. for instance.. the ‘I’m lovin it’ melody. The fact that there is usually someone in earshot of you phone when it rings means that you could saturate a market already chock full of noise and light pollution with a little bit more.

The RIAA, MPAA, and Comcast can take a long walk off a short pier. All for ripping off their customers and not offering quality product for a reasonable price.

Ringles? Thankfully there are audio editing programs and other software that allow users to convert samples of cd’s or mp3s they have purchased and make ringtones out of them. I guess Itunes and the rest have some type of digital signature in them. I wouldn’t know. I would rather spend $11.99 for a cd then $12 for for 12 $1.00 copy protected mp3’s. I’d rather make my own from the cd I purchased.

I just don’t understand why the RIAA and MPAA pitch such a fuss about internet music trading or ringtone trading, or whatever. Its just the same as making a vhs copy of a tv show or a casette recording of an LP and exchanging it with a friend. And honestly, I’m sure plenty of people within the RIAA or MPAA have done such acts themselves - handing a family member a recording of a tv show they taped while working late one night.

The RIAA and MPAA look at the whole ‘bigger picture’ the wrong way- they fail to realize that the common folks are not record execs and the likes that rip off their ‘artists’ on their labels. Let alone that the common person will never make enough money to purchase every last song or movie that they like. Its just common sense. And trading has been going on for decades, long before the internet.

If anything, they should be thankful people pass their ‘products’ around, it is free advertising. People DO buy what they like, give them the product they want and at a fair price.

ringtones? 10 cents tops. mp3’s are already too expensive as it is.

frankly i would think they would be happy to offer a free mp3 or something like that i mean for one they are making scads of money off the poor…next of all there are people in other countries who never heard of some of their artists really and what better way then to offer a free mp3 to be heard…they are vulchers is what they are…somehow a gift God gave such as music became a cash cow along with everything else and they wonder why we live in a screwed up world…that would be why they are charging rediculous prices that only the rich can afford…well let me tell you this will be the only heaven their ass see if they keep that up…and on that note it makes me sick because i bet you some of these guys go and sit in a church too and figure they can put some money in a collection plate that goes to another man and their all good…disgusting…well for their information unless you can eat those tunes poor people cant afford it…since when has music become a friggin luxury item? anyhow thats my rant i hope the RIAA shoves it up their ass hahahaha
