Boys Night Out knows what it takes to succeed in today’s industry. It takes one simple word, change. With their self titled record, they did just that.
They moved away from the majority (if not all) of the quasi-hardcore/metalcore they employed on their previous releases and moved into a definitive modern rock sound. They are still heavy and still excellent, and if you ask (which you probably won’t), this is their best release to date. I like what they have done eliminating a lot of the unnecessary screaming and such and replaced it with smart sounding hooks and catchy guitars. It was a smart move for the band in order to stay afloat in the fickle hearts of music fans everywhere. There are a lot of different songs that have their charm, but “Get Your Head Straight†should lead the radio charge and “Up with Me†tips its cap to the heavy, while adding a nice cocky and ballsy aspect to the record.
Some might say that BNO have “sold out,†but being a big BNO fan myself, and coming from someone who owns their records, I welcome the change. I mean, look at it this way, if they don’t change their sound, they will more then likely break up, and if you are a fan of the music, wouldn’t you want them to keep making records? It’s a change for the better all around, and a win-win situation for fans.  Â
