Emo And Goth Music Be To Banned In Russia
According to The Moscow Times the Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal.
Last month a parliamentary committee was convened to discuss a draft proposal of the Russian government’s “Government Strategy In The Sphere Of Spiritual And Ethical Education” bill, the details of which were leaked to The Moscow Times. Among other measures, the proposed legislation calls for heavy regulation of emo web sites and for banning young people dressed like emos from entering schools and government buildings.
The bill also outlines what it calls a “spiritual and ethical crisis” facing Russian youth, including the high rate of alcohol abuse, teen abortions and “negative youth movements.”
Emo ideology encourages and justifies drug use and sexual relations among minors, according to the bill, which also lumps emos and goths together with skinheads.
“The point of the bill is so that by 2020, Moscow will have someone to rule its government,” said Alexander Grishunin, an adviser to Public Chamber member Yevgeny Yuryev, one of the bill’s three coordinators. “This is the first step in the public discourse.”
The bill’s sponsors hope that it will be passed into law by the end of the year.

What is the difference between emo, metal and rock? If emo music is setting a bad example for kids then rock music has been doing it for a long time same with metal. If they ban emo and goth music they will have to ban rock, metal, and rap, they all talk about sex and drugs, then what ban the rolling stones from preforming in russia? I just think that banning one type of music because it talks about issues that are in almost every style of music is real stupid.

To those saying “ban emo, listen to metal”. You’re forgetting that metal could also be construed by such conservative government types as gothic/emo music, since a lot of goths/emos also listen to metal.
So yeah. It’s still shit, and a move towards totalitarianism, much like what happened in the USA in the 70’s. But whereas in America such a bill was never passed (to my knowledge), I have less confidence in the Russians successfully opposing this legislation.
That’s my two cents.

It may just stir up more controversy, and in turn, make those scenes stronger than ever. But I don’t live in Russia so I don’t know to what extent their laws are actually implemented. If the Kaiser and Stalin are any indication, I wouldn’t fuck with them.
Emo and goth should be trampled upon anyway. They are the most effeminate of all music scenes and it will be healthy for them to face combat.
More interestingly, Russia has a thriving extreme radical black metal scene. Apparently it has not roused the attention of the authorities yet.

I’ve been reading a lot of comments, and one thing I’ve noticed is a lot of people don’t get what type of people don’t get what type of people are trying to pass the bill here.
Big wig politicians can’t tell death metal from screamo. Like D-Muerte talking about the thriving black metal scene. It would be BEYOND easy for these types of people to misconstrue black metal as gothic music, and so on. So even though they SAY emo and goth, the whole spectrum of what they’re banning is actually QUITE vauge.

They’re basically going to have intense rules of banning music, and the metal scene is going to suffer from that trust me, I mean a typical metal head wears a black band shirt and if he happened to wear a black jeans, he’ll be considered Emo or Goth, Authority don’t know if it’s cannibal corpse or dashboard confessional. So Metalheads are also going to get fucked, that will not give the music scene there much freedom. Um, while I’m not too into emo or goth music (as in, I don’t listen to it that much) I don’t think it should be banned.

The first one seems to support suicide
While the second one seems to attack christianity
Obviously there are more examples that someone is BOUND to pull
But there are only few GOOD metal songs that support fucking binge drinking and drug abuse and suicide (if any for the last one)
