Ripping Off U2: Yahoo Got It Wrong
So I’m cruising the internet and I see the random music story on Yahoo about Ripping Of U2. Though their choices are clear, heavily influenced by U2 bands such as Radiohead, Coldplay, and The Killers, they missed the most obvious U2 ripoff of all.
Linkin Park.
What?
Yup. Checkout the song below - and hear the resemblance. With Or Without You, I am sticking to my guns that this is the worst U2 ripoff ever.

I’ve been saying this since the first time I heard this song on the radio; nice to see someone else pick up on it as well. Ugh, such regurgitated crap.

it does sound like U2 completely
i used to listen to Linkin Park too
as what Tom said
it is regurgitated shit

I agree it is the worst ripoff ever. I had to stop it because I hated it so much. Does U2 know they are using them for this awful song. So two thumb down completely. I also agree with regurgitated crap, too. Why did they have to do that to such a beautiful song.

I would like to add
ISNT LINKIN PARK A METAL BAND?
What the hell happened?
Were they making more money doing this
crap and decided to stick with the
bubble gum noise and flee to that zone?
They need to come back to the
“Shut Up When I’m talking to you!” stuff.
I pretty much hate anything else they do.
And that one gets annoying after a bit.

Sir Jak, LP is not a metal band.
They are “alternative” rap rock, or nu-metal if you will.
And I use quotation marks because a band that gets high rotation on MTV, Video Hits and other commercial music TV shows can’t be alternative in my view.
End.

I love U2(GO BONO!)
I also love Linkin Park,

Actually, the First time I ever heard this track on the Radio I initially thought it was a band from Germany called the Notwist. Go ahead check out the track entitled ‘Day 7′ from their album ‘Shrink’(1997) - on the Notwist(Official MySpace) page. Once you get past the long ass intro of that song the Vocal styling/delivery is laughably similar.

Mike, they are not even “NU-METAL” u can not associate LP with METAL PLEASE!!! but WTF does this have too do with Mastodon as the bulliten posted by a guy on Myspace? IM CONFUSED,

Who cares??? These guys are famous and totally great, they dont have to rip off anyone… ANYONE WHO KEEPS THIS STUPID DEBATE UP, YOU ARE JUST IGNORANT. ALL ARTISTS AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER RECORD SOMEONE ELSE’S MUSIC. ALL ARE INFLUENCED BY PREVIOUS ARTISTS. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE….I DON’T SEE YOU RECORDING MUSIC, NEITHER CAN I. I AM GONNA ENJOY THEIR MUSIC..I SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME AND STOP HATING.

Holy sheep shit!
August 17th, 2008 at 7:48pm
calling lp metal is straight blasphemy.
lp’s genre is based on what is popular.
they were rap-rock when limpbizkit was “cool”
now they are apparently soft rock hacks.

The reason they did this was because the new producer was the old one for u2. Regurgitated crap, yes. Also, notice in the video of What I’ve done, it is eerily similar to the video of Veritgo.
I like Linkin Park but their new stuff is u2. Which is not cool because they were just fine with what they were doing before :(.

I use to be a huge linkin park fan i don’t know wtf happen to them. they need to go back to their roots. It’s like they are trying to be something they are not. I hate when bands do stuff like this. I didn’t like this song when i first saw it on mtv. I didn’t even buy their last album.

You’re perfectly right. “With or Without You” was the absolute FIRST song that came to mind when I first heard this song. But as an artist myself, I know those four chords from anywhere. That is a very recycled progression. You might as well throw Bush - Glycerin or Green Day - When I Come Around in the Mix. There are soooo many songs that are built from that progression of chords. G,D,Em,C. I myself am finding it hard to come up with ideas that don’t resemble or sound like someone else. But not to get off of the subject at hand. I totally agree that Linkin Park did a poor job at NOT copying U2. Its overly obvious. Glad I’m not alone in this.

FACT: It is reminiscent of U2, but it is a FAR crty from a rip off!
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:36pm
yes i didn’t it until now thanks very much.it is rather scary indeed.nice vid though.how did they get away with it n does U2 even know about it?
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:39pm
then again everybody rips off someone else.u mind has well say the orginators of every musical genre have been ripped off.cause every one else is just clones of the orginators.then it sounds different too.how bout vanilla ice n queen.remeber that one.

Honestly Does anybody really give a shit…its not like U2 hasn’t made Millions already…Besides U2 doesnt own there music there Label does,Linkin Parks Label owns them,Linkin Park does what there Label tells them to do..And U2’s Label sells there music out…You Figure it out,now U2 will get all the attention for a great song that Linkin Park is performing,Hats off to the record company for keep us stupid comsumers On our toes….
September 4th, 2008 at 1:56pm
holy crap! The bass line is a rip off and so is the vocal line! As a musician I can understand once in wile a riff or vocal phrase sounding something like a song but when its the close, and two different parts doing it…they sat down, talked about and fucking ripped U2 off!
New level in lame for a already shitty band!
