When the debut album, END OF SILENCE came out from the band RED it pushed this new band from Nashville into a world they never before saw. The album saw Grammy nominated popularity and put them on some amazing tours along with giving active rock stations radio hits like LET GO, BREATHE INTO ME and ALREADY OVER. For all the mighty triumphs they have been given they have been also forced to see tragic episodes and life changing events.
This brings us to 2009 and the release of the up n coming sophomore work of INNOCENCE & INSTINCT. RED’s music has always been a very epic voyage and for a young band their sound really sounds like they have been doing this for several years. It’s rich and powerful and the poignant lyrical content shoots right into your soul with emotion and conviction. In my honest opinion I am not a full fledge fan of the band but when a band has the talent these guys have I have to at least respect what they do. The band brings classic rock tones out and the layering of musical enhancements from string orchestration, to rock solid guitar work and a vocalist who shows pain, love, anger, regret, hopefulness and positive passion into one song really needs to be applauded and looked at even if you are not into the mainstream rock radio bands. CONFESSION shows the harder edge of the band with dark soundscapes, loud guitar work that make the song a stand out. OUT FROM UNDER, blasts out hard rock vibes with electronic undertones. FIGHT INSIDE reminded me of Linkin Park with its intro but adapts quickly into the RED sound with feverishly wicked edgy tones and dark emotional vocals. DEATH OF ME channels in the vibe from the bands debut album with self explored lyrics and that layering of penetrating strings and strong rock ambience. START AGAIN probably the most passionate words of sorrow and a “hope for one more try” content I have heard in a long time really brings life into the song and the cover of Duran Duran’s ORDINARY WORLD sounds almost like the original and really fits the vibe of the album.
RED, a rock band that is full of emotional integrity, talent and musicianship that will in future years be looked at as “classic”
