Buckcherry/Papa Roach/Rev Theory/Charm City Devils At The Worcester Palladium

March 20th, 2009 by Stephanie Stevens

It’s always a breathe of fresh air to come to a real rock show cause Adults are there. There is always crazy fun and when BUCKCHERRY and PAPA ROACH throw a party you know the adventure and the craziness won’t let up until mid morning next day.

So the show was at the Palladium, a known venue in the area and a place I call home because I frequent it so much. I got to the venue right in the middle of the opening band CHARM CITY DEVILS set and I don’t know if it was lack of space onstage or what but there was a very inefficient amount of rocking out from the band guys. They did their single to end the set and to be honest I don’t know why they picked that as a single because I didn’t hear much of a catch or anything motivating about the song. What I heard later on in the evening from talking to one of their band members, James, was that they are from MD and this was the first night on this tour along with they got signed by Nikki Sixx and for me MR. Sixx has taste so maybe…. I just didn’t see enough of the boys or hear enough.

Next up were the boys in REV THEORY and let me tell you they are like the mini Papa Roach, they give it to the death!! Start to finish these guys rock out and bring the sound to another level. Plus the guys are not bad at ALL to look at, so that is a mighty plus for all the girls out there. They sounded stronger then the last time I saw them with Hinder but because it was a packed line up I feel they got a little shafted on time and didn’t get to really bring out the punches on their set. Plus they did their new single for LIGHT IT UP as the 2nd song in the set which was exciting to hear so early in but on the same note a bummer cause it’s nice to leave the stage with a bam but then I remember they still have a trick up their sleeve with older song HELL YEAH that gets the crowd dancing and rocking the hell out!!! REV THEORY still is a new addiction to the rock scene but growing everyday and in a very damn good way. KEEP IT UP!!

PAPA was coming and this little writer was extremely excited. I have been a PAPA ROACH fan since they were little local boys in the Cali scene. I even used to email Jacoby from time to time. The boys have grown up a lot and have become a very wanted band especially on the East Coast. The party starts as soon as the guys hit the stage. I do have to admit that the new stuff they played LIFELINE which is the newest video and single and this other song HOLLYWOOD WHORE was a let down for me. It has that same momentum of any PAPA song but it just didn’t grab onto me as quick as everything else they have done in the past. So I am pretty skeptical on the new stuff but they made it up  with all the other lovely tunes that I have cranked up and rocked out on summer days like DEADSET, FOREVER, SCARS,  …TO BE LOVED, GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER and the already known ending song INFEST which skyrocketed them to the top of the charts back in the day. There set was fast and furious and kind of a bummer when it had to end but as usual they left everyone in a sweaty happy mess, so goal achieved!!!

BUCKCHERRY so yea I will admit songs about sex and fucking are fun to listen to and the guys in BUCKCHERRY do not shy away from singing about it, talking about it and giving you the motions of it when they play onstage. I have come to like more songs of the album they have already given up but I was surprised when I saw they were the headliners but I was going to see if they had what it took to give it!! First thing was they didn’t have a active light show but they did have a massive screen as their backdrop that shot out sweet abstract images and also showed some of their touring life adventures while they played live for us tonight. They do have a lot of energy as a band onstage but I really do believe the singer should keep a shirt on, he has rad tattoos but man he is skinny. But that didn’t over compensate for the music. The sound was good and they did justice to them on a live atmosphere but I still think someone else on the tour should have been the big main act. One thing I was happy about was when they rocked out CRAZY BITCH and there wasn’t a bunch of chatty talk in the middle of it like they did on Crue Fest last year. They played the song, got the crowd involved and just let the song carry its own weight.  LIT UP was a fun song for the crowd who were dancing with the person on the side of them even if they didn’t know who it was!!! SORRY mellowed the crowd out and had them singing on the top of their lungs. RESCUE ME drove it home and TOO DRUNK TO FUCK probably summed up the night for half of the crowd.

All n all rock and roll is alive and kicking and it’s great when package tours like this come around especially in the way this world is going. It’s nice to get people out and let go of their stressed lives and just enjoy the music!!!
