All American Rejects ‘When The World Comes Down’ CD Review

April 13th, 2009 by Jackie

THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS have always had a strong place in my heart, for the past couple of years they have done so much with their music and given to their fans.  Tyson catches the attention of everyone with his soft yet strong voice.  The lyrics seem to flow from the heart to paper back to the fans on all the albums.  GIVES YOU HELL is a great single for the album, but not my choice.  WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN, their third album is somewhat depressing, but strong and powerful.  It is a great album that those boys should be proud to say is their creation.

Strong and impressive drumbeats, mellow and expressive guitar riffs, rhythmic bass guitar and powerful lyrics has always made up the guys of THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS.  We’re going to change it up a bit on how these reviews go.  I WANNA the first track on the album is catchy and expressive and a great way to open the album.  I would have liked to see this song as their first single however.  FALLIN APART brings you back to the first album and the song SWING SWING.  Helps you remember where these boys came from and how they started out just as some of these new bands are.  For those of you just starting out, just think you may end up where THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS are.  DAMN GIRL has a slow beat, but the chorus is up beat for these emotional lyrics.  Telling her that she has lost him and it’s her own fault for loosing him.  GIVES YOU HELL is the first single off the album and everybody loves it.  I like the song, but I’m not in love with is.  I believe they could have picked a better first single.  MONA LISA is slow and would work well as an acoustic song.  The guitars capture you with melodic lyrics and the piano adds a little pop to it.  We are even lucky to here the title of the album, WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN, in the c horus of the song.  BREAKIN’ has the best lyrics that I have come across in a while, “Hold on tight, and wrap your arms around me till your fingers turn white.” This really shows love and honesty of a relationship.  The drums keep a strong rhythm to follow along with.  It does have a strong entrance, but the rest of the song is about breakups and the after relationship.  ANOTHER HEART CALLS opens up just like BEHIND BLUES EYES by LIMP BIZKIT.  The mellow guitar starts it off and you expect to hear Tyson start singing, but a girls voice sounds first. Allison and Catherine Pierce are the vocal talent the compliment Tyson in this song.  It picks up in the middle and the Pierce sisters have that country vibe that makes the song unique in its on way.  REAL WORLD has a strong beat and is very bouncy in the beginning.  Expression of what he wants for his future and the real world.  BACK TO ME is mostly drums and piano that bring you the beat.  Tyson hits some high notes, that he probably shouldn’t, but it fits the song.  Guitar and bass are in the background a nd add flare to the melodic song.  BELIEVE is a loud entrance songs.  About a girl that got away, he doesn’t want to forget about her or let her outta his life.  The chorus is strong, hard guitar riffs, strong drumming, and loud singing and shows that they have a passion for someone or something.  THE WIND BLOWS opens with drum beats that catch the listener’s attention.  It is a great song to close the album with.  It kinda reminds me of music from the 80’s and the lyrics from the 90’s. Not many artists would be able to do that kinda combination, but these boys sure can, it’s a great mix to put together. Of course THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS couldn’t leave without an encore.  SUNSHINE is a bonus track that opens sounding like an orchestra.  Its powerful vocals entice the listener to actually want more from them.
