RATING 5/5

Once upon a time I met a man who had the compassion, personality and a humble exterior. But beyond that was a talent that was inspiring and rejuvenating and I knew this man would one day touch many people. Shane Told was his name and he is the front man for the Canadian band SILVERSTEIN. From alb um to album this band has developed and explored diversity in their sound and just keeps turning out great records. Every song brings out a new depth, melody driven effects and elegance.   Their latest album A SHIPWRECK IN THE SAND indulges us with the SILVERSTEIN of old with aggressive and heavier approaches that you found on their debut album WHEN BROKEN IS EASILY FIXED, the lyrical talent that was displayed in DISCOVERING THE WATERFRONT and the up beat melody that was all over ARRIVALS & DEPARTURES. On this latest effort the difference is the band took this to a conceptual outlook, a story based adventure that has emotional drama, sensitive sides and raging angst. Lyrically the songs can be cemented into anyone’s past or present state of mind, people will feel for the storyline and with the way the songs are chaptered out you will feel the build up going from segment to segment. Musically the music moves from aggressive angst to melody driven ambitious states.  Shane’s vocals are an array of hurt aggression and delicate somber moments.

VICES, is the bands first single and has a guest appearance from Liam of The Cancer Bats. The song penetrates rage, energetic rhythm section and an addictive chorus filled with melodic power. One of my favorite songs is BORN DEAD, punk rock sentiments but still jarring with the heavy notions and melodic tones plus the great contributing vocals of Wade Scott make it raw and alluring. The combo of the singing/talking elements on A SHIPWRECK IN THE SAND is a courageous venture and brings to life the conceptual feel. YOU’RE ALL I HAVE has an upbeat tempo; vocals are simple, revved up and completely the SILVERSTEIN signature sound. THE END made me cry and is compelling and compassionate and with the intertwining of Shane and Lights vocals it just lays to rest the story well.

This album can be talked about for hours in my opinion. SILVERSTEIN in my eyes never disappoints, they unleash strong content in a beautiful and composed way and the music always bleeds with passion.
