It's KsE like they've always been but more raw and a bit darker. Howard seems to have gone through a really bad relationship just prior to writing the songs on this album because it is mostly about those sorts of issues. The music is pure brilliance perfectly backing Howard Jones' absolutely STUNNING vocals. Jones gets better with each new release and the singing and screaming on "Killswitch Engage" are just magic. Standout tracks are "Light in a Darkened World", "Never Again", "Take Me Away", "Starting Over", and "Lost". "Never Again" is my favorite though by far and I think most of the old KsE fans will agree. Not there best-that honor goes to "End of Heartache" but very, very good heavy music. Like Andre said, it lacks passion. I like to pop in "Fixation on the Darkness" when I need invigoration, and I really have to say that the only invigorating song on this new album is "Rose of Sharyn", and that's just the live version. Its ok, not as energetic and uplifting as the last few albums. Definitely more sombre and more passionate than anthing else they have done. Bt I prefer faster tunes from Killswitch. Theres not really a stand out track on the album other than the Reconing. If you've never heard KSE, this album will impress you, but just make sure you go back and check their older stuff to be blown away! Bring on their TASTE OF CHAOS UK TOUR! It's certainly not as heavy as anything they've done in the past but it's awesome. Howard has more emotion in his screams and cleans than ever. I don't like how people are complaining because it's not "heavy" enough. So what, it's probably a sell-out album, but it's one of the best they've ever made. They certainly aren't leaving there fans behind. To me a band truly shows talent when they show a soft side, because soft guitar and clean vocals are 2 of the hardest things to do in the world and when a band can do then that well, it shows TRUE talent. While it may not be as heavy as their old stuff its still Killswitch and i believe howard just totally destroyed our worlds and made it anew with his vocals. It lacks the passion and edginess of Alive or Just Breathing and The End of Heartache. The lyrics seem too dark and depressing for a band that had such a powerful positive message of empowerment on their previous releases. Hopefully their next album will be better but who knows.
