Those doubters who were waiting for Circa Survive to compromise their brilliant sound with their sophomore release, “On Letting Go,†will have to wait a little longer.
Mastermind Andrew Green and the boys return to the limelight with their second fantastic release, which is brimming of wondrous post-rock, post-hardcore beauty that your ears will thank you afterwards. Green’s adolescent sound, which is very congenial and inviting enough to lure you in continues to shine throughout “On Letting Go.†If it all possible, CS’s sounds gets more complex and even more expansive, noticeable on tracks like “Travel Hymn†& “Mandala.†They do a nice job of utilizing loads of guitar effects and speed up, slow down song momentums so the music itself does not grow stale to listeners. In terms of sound, “On Letting Go†if just as big, if not bigger than their phenomenal release “Juturna.†“Close Your Eyes To See†and “You Friends Are Gone†are excellent finishing tracks for the record, mixing in epic sounding guitars with more of the hi/lo tempo drumming, and of course, interlaced with Green’s attractive vocals. The song writing talent is still there with this record, as Green adeptly crafts 12 more distinguishable works.  Â
Honestly, if I had to pick one band to keep listening to forever, I think CS might be one of the frontrunners. “On Letting Go†will not only bolster and expand your record collection; it will expand your mind as well.    Â
