Iron Maiden’s Tour May Actually be Awesome

According to Pollstar [ http://www.pollstar.com/ ] Iron Maiden will focus almost entirely on the ’80s in both song choices and stage set for this tour.

Bassist Steve Harris said the choice of material and sets for the tour is a thank you to fans.

”On the last tour we opened the show by playing our new album, A Matter of Life and Death, in its 80 minute entirety,” Harris said. “We thought we needed the challenge and it proved the right thing to do. However, it can be hard on the fans playing so much new material, and we really appreciated the superb effort they gave us. So now I guess it’s payback time. It’s tremendous to be able to use the profile of the DVDs to do what is effectively an ’80s show.”

You damn right. That’s why they’re popular and that’s what they should do.

Five Finger Death Punch wants to see YOUR kick ass guitar skills. They’re having a contest to see who can do the best guitar cover of one of their songs off our debut album “The Way of the Fist”.

{a little help here - the tuning is true baritone B to B }

Here’s what to do:
1. Take a video of yourself playing any song off “The Way of the Fist” and post it on YouTube.
2. Tag your video with “Five Finger Death Punch” and the name of the song you choose.
3. Send an email to ffdpknuckleheads@yahoo.com with the link to your video so we can go check it out.

They’ll be picking the best videos and posting one new finalist on their site everyday. You can go vote and help them pick who has the best skills. The winner will get free tickets and backstage passes to the next show the band plays in your town. So show them what you got and who knows…maybe the band can teach you a thing or two. Contest will end September 29 so get those entries in!

Speaking of Coal Chamber

Since I mentioned Coal Chamber in the post about Deadstar Assembly, it made me remember one of their coolest songs (in my opinion) and one of my favorite covers ever done!

Do you remember this?

“MASTODON WITH FOO FIGHTERS ON THE VMAS!Foo Fighters have enlisted friends old and new to join them for a night of exclusive one-time-only 2007 MTV VMA performances. System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Mastodon and old friends Josh Homme & Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age have all signed on to play alongside Foo Fighters in their Fantasy Suite. Don’t miss this one night only event, happening only on the 2007 MTV VMAs airing live on Sunday, September 9th at 9PM!”

Are they all playing at once? I have no idea but how do these bands even go together? LOL. Seriously, if you know - clue us in.

Random Band Alert: Deadstar Assembly

“Band you should listen to if you haven’t yet” just doesn’t have the same flow does it?

deadstar-assembly.jpg
Deadstar Assembly’s 2006 album “Unsaved” manages to make its way back into my CD player time and time again. Why? They can write songs! This particular genre (sorta goth and electronic influenced rock) can be all too easy to make a mess of - Yet, they are able to bring some cohesive and rocking songs out of the mix of elements they have to work with. The unique beats and noise bring you in; the hooks keep you listening. To top it off they even pull it off live, which you can see by watching some of their performances on UVTV ( http://www.uvtv.info/deadstar-assembly.php )I would say that this band is for people who liked Coal Chamber and Orgy back in the day and are into bands like Bella Morte or even MSI now. Either way, go take a listen:http://www.myspace.com/deadstarassembly
